Statue of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, first half of 2nd century. Hadrian (Publius Aelius Hadrianus) (76-138) was Emperor from 117 until his death. He founded the city of Antinopolis in Egypt and is best remembered in Britain for the construction of the fortified wall that bears his name built across the north of England to keep out barbarian raiders. Found in the collection of The Hermitage, St Petersburg.
