Helsinki Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko), also known as the Cathedral of St Nicholas, was designed by by Carl Engel and built between 1830 and 1852. Finland was a Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire from 1809 until 1917. The building directly in front of the cathedral is Helsinki City Hall.
