Würzburg, Germany, after Allied bombing, World War II, 1945. Würzburg was bombed on several occasions by the British and American air forces in 1944-1945. On the night of 16 March 1945 225 RAF Lancaster bombers devastated the city and its medieval centre in a raid that created a devastating firestorm and killed an estimated 5000 of the inhabitants.
