The American War cabinet under William McKinley (1843-1901), 1898 (c1910). The cabinet included John Sherman, Lyman J Gage, Russell A Alger, John Davis Long, Cornelius Newton Bliss, James Wilson, and Joseph McKenna. As 25th President of the United States, McKinley served from 1897 until his assassination in September 1901. He led the nation to victory in the Spanish-American War, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry, and maintained the nation on the gold standard in a rejection of inflationary proposals.
