Augustus Caesar - Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (63 BC-14 AD), first Roman Emperor in 27 BC. His rule saw a great expansion of territory under Roman rule. Within the Empire, Augustus brought stability after many years of civil war, and introduced an improved road network, a stable currency and an efficient postal service. Many great buildings and architectural works were built, and art and literature flourished. Taken from the 'Leaders of Men' cigarette cards produced by Ogdens 1924.
