James VI of Scotland, James I of England and Ireland. Charles James (1566-1625) was King of England, King of Scotland, and King of Ireland and was the first to style himself King of Great Britain. He ruled in Scotland as James VI from 24 July 1567 until his death. After an engraving by Renold Elstracke (1570- after 1625).
