Charles, Prince of Wales, Age 12, c1642. It is likely that King Charles I (1600-1649) commissioned this painting of the future King Charles II (1630-1685) to commemorate his twelve year old son having been present at the Battle of Edgehill. The Battlefield of Edgehill is visible in the backgraound of the painting. Painting housed at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh.
