Boys playing in a fives court, Strand School, Brixton Hill, London, 1914. Fives is a game similar to court-tennis. The game consists primarily of a hard ball being hit against a wall with the hand. It was originally played against any walled surface offering sufficient playing area, but as the popularity of the game grew, fives walls or courts were built.
