'Victors of the Mareth Line', 1943. The Battle of the Mareth line or the Battle of Mareth, 16th to 31st March 1943, was part of an Allied operation under General Bernard Montgomery in Tunisia during the Second World War, intended to assault the Mareth Line defences held by German and Italian forces under General Giovanni Messe.
