'The battered remains of Ypres after the last shell had done its worst, showing the ruins of the famous cloth hall', c1917, (1935). On 21 November 1917 an artillery shell hit the Nieuwerck and parts of the gable collapsed. On 22 November 1917 German incendiary devices hit the Cloth Hall and it was set on fire.
