Portrait of Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton, British soldier, c1815. Picton (1758-1815) fought alongside the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular War. At the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 he was killed commanding his division during a bayonet charge which stopped d'Erlon's corps' attack during a crucial phase of the battle. Picton was the most senior British officer to be killed at Waterloo. From the collection of Apsley House, London.
