Portrait of General Sir James Shaw Kennedy, British soldier, 1821. In 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo, Captain Kennedy (1788-1865) served on the staff of Alten's 3rd Division, which withstood several French cavalry charges. During the battle he was struck in the side and out of action for a period, one of his horses was killed and another was wounded under him. He was later noted as a historian of the battle.
