Portrait of British Major-Generals Sir Frederick Ponsonby Sir Colin Campbell, 1821. Both Ponsonby (1783-1837) and Campbell (1776-1847) served at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Ponsonby was Colonel of the 12th Light Dragoons and was severely wounded following a charge to support the withdrawal of the Union Brigade. Campbell was commandant at Allied headquarters and (other than Wellington) was the only man on the general staff to survive the battle uninjured. From the collection of Apsley House, London.
