'Popes Villa, Twickenham', c1910. Pope's villa was the residence of Alexander Pope (1688-1744). In 1845, a neo-Tudor house designed by Henry Edward Kendall Jr (1805-1885), known as Pope's Villa was built on approximately the same site as the original house and grotto. [G. D. & D.
