The Roman Catholic Cathedral at Westminster, London, 1911. Tothill Fields Bridewell (also known as Tothill Fields Prison and Westminster Bridewell) was a prison located in the Westminster between 1618 and 1884. Tothill Fields later became the Westminster House of Correction. The site was purchased by the Archdiocese of Westminster in 1885. Designed by John Francis Bentley (1839- 1902), work began on the cathedral in 1895 and it opened in 1903. Westminster Cathedral is the largest Catholic Church in England and Wales and the seat of the Archbishop of Westminster. From London - North of the Thames, by Sir Walter Besant.
