Bishop Burnet's House in St John's Square, Clerkenwell, London, c1900 (1911). Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715) was a Scottish philosopher, historian and cleric who became Bishop of Salisbury in 1689. He enjoyed the favour of both Charles II and William III, but fell out of royal favour in the reign of Queen Anne. From London - North of the Thames, by Sir Walter Besant.
