An exciting game: pupils of Christ's Hospital school, City of London, c1900 (1911). Founded in 1552, Christ's Hospital was the result of the vision of King Edward VI (1537-1553), assisted by Nicholas Ridley (1500-1555), Bishop of London, and Richard Dobbs, Lord Mayor of London. The school's aim was to provide education for poor children. Also known as the Bluecoat School, Christ's Hospital relocated to Horsham, Sussex, in 1902. From London - The City, by Sir Walter Besant. [Adam & Charles Black, London, 1911]
