Queen Henrietta Maria's Entry into London, 1625 (1903). Henrietta Maria of France (1609-1669) was Queen Consort of England, Scotland, and Ireland as the wife of King Charles I (1600-1649). She married Charles by proxy on 11 May 1625. They were then married in person at St Augustine's Church, Canterbury, Kent, on 13 June 1625, but Henrietta Maria's Catholic religion made it impossible for her to be crowned with her husband in an Anglican service. In the end, her failure to be crowned went down badly with the London crowds. From London in the Time of the Stuarts, by Sir Walter Besant. [Adam & Charles Black, London, 1903]
