'Calcutta - Clive Street', c1900. Clive Street, Calcutta, West Bengal, named after Robert Clive (1725-1774) a military general in the East India Company. In 1745, Clive transferred from Madras to Calcutta where he fought against the French forces in the Battle of the Carnatic, 1749, which lead to British rule of Calcutta.
