Gustav Hamel, winner of the first air race to Brighton, 1911 (1933). Gustav Hamel (1889-1914) was a pioneer British aviator. In March 1911 he won first prize in a race from Hendon to Brooklands and back and on 14 April 1911 he flew from Brooklands to Hendon in a record 17 minutes.
