St Mark's Basilica, Venice, Italy, 1927. The Basilica of St Mark was built in Byzantine style and modelled on two basilicas from the city of Byzantium, the Holy Apostles and the Hagia Sophia. The basilica was consecrated in 1094, but the exterior and internal decoration has evolved over the succeeding centuries. From Italien in Bildern, by Eugen Poppel [August Scherl, Berlin, 1927]
