The Grey Coat School, Westminster, London, c1850 (1878). The Grey Coat Hospital was founded on St Andrew's Day in 1698 by the congregation of St Margaret's, Westminster, as a day school for 50 boys. In 1701, the Governors bought a workhouse from Westminster Abbey to establish a boarding school, allowing both boys and girls to attend.
