'Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey', 1859. Known historically as St Edward's Chair or King Edward's Chair. An ancient wooden throne on which the British monarch sits when he or she is invested and crowned during coronation. Commissioned in 1296 by King Edward I, the chair is kept in Edward the Confessor's shrine at Westminster Abbey. From The History of England Div VIII by David Hume & Tobias Smollett.
