Durham Cathedral and River Wear, England, UK, 20th century. Romanesque cathedral designed and built 1093-1133 under William of St. Carilef (or William of Calais), appointed first prince-bishop by William the Conqueror in 1080. The cathedral is regarded as a fine example of Norman architecture and is a World Heritage Site.
