South Aisle in Canterbury Cathedral, Wngland, 20th century. Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England. It was largely rebuilt in the Gothic style following a fire in 1174. The cathedral was seriously damaged by an earthquake of 1382, The new transepts, aisles and nave were roofed with lierne vaults most of the work was done during the priorate of Thomas Chillenden (1391-1411).
