Elephant Frieze on Base of Audience Hall, Polunnaruwa, Sri Lanka, 20th century. 12th century relief carving of Elephant in the Audience Hall of the ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa, North Central Province, Sri Lanka. Built by King Parakrabahu, the audience hall would have been used by the kings of Polonnaruwa to hear petitions from the nobles of the kingdom and to meet emissaries from foreign rulers.
