'F.M. Montgomery Receives the German Surrender', 1945 (1955). From left to right: Rear Admiral Wagner, General Admiral Von Friedeburg, Mr. Trumbull Warren jr., Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery. On 4 May 1945 at Luneburg Heath, east of Hamburg, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery accepted the unconditional surrender of the German forces in the Netherlands, northwest Germany including all islands, in Denmark and all naval ships in those areas.
