'General Dalzell Entering Edinburgh', July 1666, (c1880). Sir Thomas Dalyell of The Binns, 1st Baronet (1615-1685) was a Scottish Royalist general in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, also known by the soubriquets Bluidy Tam and The Muscovite De'il. In July 1666 he was appointed commander-in-chief in Scotland, with orders to subdue the Covenanters, who he defeated at the Battle of Rullion Green, in the Pentland Hills, south of Edinburgh. He treated the defeated with great cruelty, and earning him the nickname Bluidy Tam. From British Battles on Land and Sea, Vol. I, by James Grant.
