Pickering Castle, c14th century, (c1990-2010). Motte and bailey (stone castle). Reconstruction drawing. Originally a timber and earth motte and bailey castle built by the Normans under William the Conqueror in 1069-1070. It was developed into a stone motte and bailey castle, from 1323 and 1326 with an outer ward and curtain wall built along with three towers.
