Pickering Castle, 13th century, (c1990-2010). Reconstruction of castle in the early 13th century. Wooden keep & walls replaced by stone. Originally a timber and earth motte and bailey castle built by the Normans under William the Conqueror in 1069-1070. It was developed into a stone motte and bailey castle.
