Pickering Castle, c13th century, (c1990-2010).. Cutaway section of the tower. Reconstruction drawing. Originally a timber and earth motte and bailey castle built by the Normans under William the Conqueror in 1069-1070. It was developed into a stone motte and bailey castle.
