'Ceylon. Built by King Tissa about 307 B.C. to contain the collar-bone of Buddha, the Thuparama is one of the eight sacred places at Anuradhapura. The dagoba, 63 feet high and 40 in diameter, stands on a platform reached by stone steps; slender monoliths with carved capitals surround it', c1920. Thuparama is the earliest historical stupas of the Sri LankaÆs ancient sacred capital of Anuradhapura.
