'The Odious Odo', c1860, (c1860). Odo of Cluny (c878-942 AD) was the second abbot of Cluny. He reformed in the Cluniac system of France and Italy. The Cluniac Reforms focused on restoring the traditional monastic life, encouraging art and caring for the poor. The reforms were largely carried out by Saint Odo and spread throughout France, England (the English Benedictine Reform), Italy and Spain. From The Comic History of England, Volume I, by Gilbert A A'Beckett. [Bradbury, Agnew, & Co., London]
