'The Fall of Phaeton', late 19th century, (1946). The ancient Greek myth of Phaeton (Phaethon), who asked to be allowed to drive the sun chariot for a day. When he was unable to control the horses, the Earth was in danger of being burnt up and, to prevent this disaster, Zeus was forced to strike down the chariot with a thunderbolt and kill Phaethon in the process. From The Etchings of the French Impressionists and Their Contemporaries, by Edward T. Chase. [The Hyperion Press, Paris, 1946]
