Sword fragment and hilt (The Abingdon Sword), Late Anglo-Saxon Period (Britain) (850-1066). Silver mounts inlaid with niello (Trewhiddle style); the guard features interlacing animal motifs; the ornament on the upper guard represents the symbols of the Evangelists; the pommel incorporates two outward looking animal heads, now fragmentary.
