'Mrs. Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845)', c1843, (1912). Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845), an English prison reformer, social reformer, Quaker, and Christian philanthropist. Fry successfully campaigned for new legislation to make the treatment of prisoners more humane. Elizabeth Fry has been depicted on the Bank of England £5 note since 2001.
