Stokesay Castle, Shropshire, c2008. View from the south-west across the pond showing the South Tower and West Range. Stokesay Castle is the finest and best-preserved 13th century fortified manor house in England. It was fortified by Lawrence de Ludlow, a wool merchant, who died in 1294.
