Santiago Ramón y Cajal (Petilla of Aragon, Navarra, 1852-Madrid, 1934), Professor of Medicine and Surgery, histologist and pathologist, he awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1906 for discovering the mechanisms that govern the morphology and connective processes of nerve cells, a revolutionary new theory that came to be called the 'neuron doctrine'.
