'An Episode of the Siege of Saragossa', c1808-1809, (1896). Scene from the Napoleonic Wars, 1803-1815; priests under fire on the steps of a church. The first siege of the Spanish city of Zaragoza by French forces under Napoleon Bonaparte took place from 15 June 1808 to 14 August 1808.
