'Pitt Drilling Militia at Walmer Castle in 1803', (1896). After William Pitt the Younger (1759-1806) resigned as Prime Minister in 1801, fears remained of a French invasion and he formed a volunteer cavalry unit at Walmer Castle in Kent. He also formed a unit of bombardier infantry and a fleet of armed fishing boats, reviewing them from the castle. Engraving after the drawing by R Caton Woodville. From Life of Napoleon Bonaparte, Volume II, by William Milligan Sloane. [The Century Co., Macmillan & Co., Limited, New York & London, 1896]
