'A worth-while piece of work', 1940. From Life in the A.T.S., booklet on the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), in Tuck's Better Little Book series. The ATS was the women's branch of the British Army during the Second World War, and women serving received two thirds the pay of male soldiers. Initially their duties as were cooks, clerks and storekeepers, but these were expanded to create roles as orderlies, drivers, postal workers and ammunition inspectors.
