Senegalese soldiers after attack, c1914-c1918. The Senegalese Tirailleurs (tirailleur translates as 'skirmisher' 'rifleman' or 'sharpshooter') were a corps of colonial infantry in the French Army. They were recruited from Senegal and other sub-Saharan regions of the French empire. Photograph from a series of glass plate stereoview images depicting scenes from World War I (1914-1918).
