Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds, West Yorkshire, 18th century. Cistercian monastery built between 1152 and 1182. It was surrendered to the Crown in 1539 after Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries. The ruins attracted several artists to paint them, including Turner. 'A Perspective View of the ruins' from The Universal Magazine.
