'A View from the West side of the Island in the Garden of Hopkins, Esqr. near Cobham in Surry.', c1760. Ladies and gentlemen can be seen crossing a bridge and boating in landscaped gardens. Probably a view of the gardens at Painshill in Surrey, a fine examples of an 18th-century English landscape park. It was designed and created between 1738 and 1773 by Charles Hamilton who sold the estate in 1773 to Benjamin Bond Hopkins. From The Modern Universal British Traveller.
