'Folkestone. The Beach and Lifts', late 19th-early 20th century. Leas Lift, a funicular railway in Folkestone, Kent, was originally installed in 1885. It was designed to carry passengers between the seafront and the promenade, and is one of the oldest water lifts in Britain. [Published c1890-1910]
