'Bishop Fisher', (1909). Saint John Fisher, English Catholic bishop, cardinal and martyr (1469-1535), protested against King Henry VIII's intention to divorce Catherine of Aragon, and was imprisoned in the Tower of London. In May 1535, he was accused of the treasonous act of refusing to accept Henry as head of the church, and was beheaded on June 25. Fisher was canonised in 1935.
