'Sir Robert Peel, Bart.', 1838, (1919). After a painting in the National Portrait Gallery, London. Peel (1788-1850) was Conservative Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1834-1835 and 1841-1846. He is probably best remembered for his organisation of a metropolitan police force for London, the officers of which became known as 'Peelers' or 'Bobbies'.
