Dover Castle, Kent, 1894. An earlier earthen castle was rebuilt in stone in the 1180s by King Henry II, and throughout its history it was constantly adapted to meet changing military needs. The castle is strategically important, sited above the town of Dover commanding views of the surrounding countryside and coast. From Beautiful Britain; views of our stately homes.
