City Hall, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, c1900. View of the City Hall and Volunteer Monument. The monument commemorated the men of the 90th Winnipeg Battalion killed in the North West Rebellion of 1885, at the Battle of Fish Creek on 24 April 1885, and the Battle of Batoche on 12 May 1885. The 'Gingerbread City Hall', designed by brothers Charles A and Earl W Barber, was built between 1883 and 1886. Its mish-mash architectural style caused controversy and it was eventually demolished in 1962. From Scenic Marvels of the New World edited by Prof. Geo.R. Cromwell. [C.N.Greig & Co., c1900]
