Girard Avenue Bridge, Philadelphia, USA, c1900. The second Girard Avenue Bridge, built 1873-1874 in anticipation of the 1876 Centennial Exposition held in West Fairmount Park. When completed, it was thought to be the largest high bridge in the United States: 304.8 metres long and 30.5 metres wide. From Scenic Marvels of the New World edited by Prof. Geo.R. Cromwell.
